Last week, Football Insider pointed out that Tottenham very much remain in the box seat to land the England international this summer.

It was explained that although Newcastle are ready to compete with Spurs for the 24-year-old's signature, the player is not keen on the idea of moving to the North East and would prefer to remain in London.

A couple of days ago, HITC claimed that Gallagher's representatives are now coming around to the idea that their client's time at Stamford Bridge might be done.

The report claimed that Ange Postecoglou's men are now ready to push ahead with an immediate bid for the Chelsea academy graduate as they seek to beat out the competition for his signature.

"There's interest from several clubs but I'm not hearing about anything being close or concrete now, the usual interest from many clubs, including Tottenham, is there, but there's nothing new in terms of negotiations."

It is now clear that Gallagher is on his way out of Chelsea as he nears the final year of his contract.

However, Tottenham would not be overconfident about their prospects of landing the midfielder as the Blues might be hesitant to sell their academy graduate to their local rivals, given the potential fan backlash the decision would cause.
