Chelsea were in a comfortable position yesterday when they ended up getting let down by their goalkeeper.
The Blues were 2-0 up and passing the ball around the back pretty comfortably when Robert Sanchez passed the ball right to Declan Rice, who got Arsenal back into it and sparked the come back.
But that wasn't his only error. On Match of the Day after the game, Alan Shearer couldn't contain his frustration about what had happened next. Sanchez, clearly with his head in a spin, took out Gabriel Jesus as he entered the box, and the Chelsea keeper was very lucky to not give away a spot kick.
"Sanchez has just come out and he wipes him out, Jesus. What's key for me is that he catches him in the head. Look, he goes right through him here. It's a terrible challenge," the former striker said in quotes featured on Football.London.
"How on earth can the VAR not think that's a penalty and the referee? He is nowhere near the ball."
While Chelsea got away with it, they soon conceded the equaliser anyway.
Shearer was equally scathing about the first error from Sanchez:
"[Arsenal] had to rely on a mistake from Sanchez. I mean, what on earth is he doing there? I haven't got a clue. Just clear it and get rid of it."
