Hammers Battle Chelsea for Lille Star
Source:West Ham

West Ham United now find themselves in a battle with Premier League rivals Chelsea for the signature of Lille forward Jonathan David.

David, a 24-year-old Canadian international forward, has been on West Ham's radar since the dawn of time it seems. It appears that despite the passing of a year, our interest in David has never truly faded.

Let's be honest here, David has been the next big thing for some time now and it's incredible that he's still at Lille. To use an old phrase, 'he used to be the future' and the forward is to do anything with his career, he probably needs a move mow.

Undeterred by the increased competition, West Ham are actively putting together a bid for David, suggesting we're serious about the transfer. Plettenberg estimates David's price tag to be around PS16-21 million, potentially making him a more attainable option compared to other targets. It's also significantly less than the days when he was being hawked around Europe for PS50m.

He is a very talented player as despite not always playing as a main striker, he boasts a remarkable scoring record, having netted 147 goals for club and country throughout his career.

This pursuit of David fits in with Steidten's known strategy of scouting Ligue 1 for potential signings, suggesting that he has a strong belief in David's abilities.

On the face of it, this looks like a really good fit for both parties. I am sure Plettenberg will keep us up to date with developments such is his penchant for Tweeting.

He would be a worthy addition to the London Stadium.
