Fabrizio Romano reports that Aston Villa youngster Omari Kellyman has passed his Chelsea medical, and is now signing all the things that need to be signed for his PS19m transfer that was agreed last week. (Wonder if we'll have to wait until the Ian Maatsen deal going the other way is fully agreed as well before this does become officially official.)
The 18-year-old must not be very highly rated, since he's signing "only" a six-year contract through 2030, with a club option for a seventh year.
Joking aside, Kellyman is set to become the latest highly promising youngster to join are ever-growing collection of highly promising youngsters. In theory, this will all congeal into a consistent winning machine at some point, but the reality of trying to implement an "American-style" squad rebuild (a tried and true method in franchised, closed leagues) into a European football environment may not be as straightforward.
What role Kellyman might play in all that (at some point or another) remains to be seen. At just 18, he's likely being earmarked for a loan next season.
