Alexander Isak transfer latest as Newcastle 'contact' Chelsea and Arsenal
Source:Football.London -

Newcastle United have reportedly contacted both Chelsea and Arsenal to insist that it would take an astronomical fee for them to sell Alexander Isak this summer.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the Blues had entered the race to sign Isak and would be willing to break their previous transfer record fee of PS115m to bring the Swede to Stamford Bridge. However, according to The Guardian, the North East club are doubtful that Chelsea would be able to reach the fee that they require.

It is thought Newcastle would want well over PS115m for Isak and the Magpies believe that Chelsea's Financial Fair Play (FFP) position would prevent them from reaching that figure. Meanwhile, Arsenal also hold a longstanding interest in the centre-forward but it is thought they have been deterred by Eddie Howe's club's asking price.

Despite setting what is thought to be a huge price tag on Isak, even that may not be enough to persuade them to sell. It is believed Newcastle have contacted both clubs to inform them that the striker is not for sale this summer.

The Magpies will likely be strengthened in this position thanks to Isak's comments regarding staying at St James' Park. "I've just had the best season of my career," he recently explained to Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen.

"I'm really happy at Newcastle. I love everything about it; the club, the fans and the city. My future is not something I will speculate on. I have no thoughts on leaving."
