Today is the 1st of July - last season is over and next season has officially begun. The PSR period for last season is also ended, most contracts have ticked into their next year or expired, or in the case of Enzo Maresca, officially begun.
Our writer Simon Phillips has a nice exclusive this morning about what Maresca's first week will look like - and what he's already been up to behind the scenes in an unofficial capacity.
More Stories about Enzo Maresca The new coach has apparently "memorised the deep data" for players in his squad, and been involved in transfer talks. Today work at the training ground begins though. Some players have been back for a while doing individual work, but today Maresca gets his hands on them, with the trickle turning into a flood on the 4th when many new faces arrive. It will be almost a month before the majority are there post Euros and Copa America.
Maresca has apparently done some interviews with the club's media team which we will see soon, as has new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who should be announced soon.
Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic in a montage. Maresca's hand on the transfer button KDH is seen as, at the very least, a manager approved signing because of their work together at Leicester last season. He's clearly involved in some capacity with the the transfer business, and an important part of that will be his decision on the goalkeepers.
Phillips writes that "goalkeeper... will be assessed as we go through preseason."
Maresca will have to work with that he's got, and if he really thinks that Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic aren't good enough to play his style, he will have to make his case to the sporting directors that signing a keeper more confident with their feet is an essential next move.
