Chelsea are on the verge of completing their sixth summer transfer after agreeing a fee of around PS14million with Boca Juniors for defender Aaron Anselmino.

A deal for the 19-year-old to move to Stamford Bridge is close to completion. According to reports, Anselmino has agreed personal terms and is waiting for final approvals before undergoing his medical. He is expected to sign a six-year deal to keep him at the club until 2030 and Boca want to keep him on loan until January.

It had been reported last week that Strasbourg are interested in signing him on loan, but Boca are keen to keep him at the club, having impressed during his brief time in the senior set-up. He made his professional debut in June 2023 and has made just 10 first-team appearances, scoring his first goal back in April.

Anselmino, who is predominately a centre-back, can also play in defensive midfield and is highly rated in his native Argentina. Boca president Juan Roman Riquleme is a big fan. He said of Anselmino: "He has developed a lot.

"With the growth, the head that he has and the desire to learn that he shows, he is on his way to being a great footballer. He is going to be a player for the national team. He is going to compete with the centre-backs."

Considering his limited first-team experience, it is widely expected that Anselmino will be a player for the future rather than an immediate starter in the Chelsea team. Despite this, he is another talented youngster and continues the trend of the Blues signing players who have plenty of years ahead of him.

Anselmino is set to become their sixth summer signing. Tosin Adarabioyo was unveiled as their first in a free transfer from Fulham last month before 17-year-old sensational Estevao Willian - who won't join until 2025 - was confirmed in a deal worth up to around PS48m from Palmeiras.

Omari Kellyman joined from Aston Villa for PS19m before Marc Guiu was announced in a PS5m switch from Barcelona on Monday. This was before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall signed a five-year deal - with the option of a further 12 months - at Stamford Bridge as he swapped Leicester for Chelsea in a PS30m swoop.
