Chilwell’s future ‘uncertain’ under Enzo Maresca at Chelsea — report
Source:We Ain't

Chelsea players are set to start filtering back to Cobham later this week, with the new season now just a little over six weeks away and new head coach Enzo Maresca ready to get down to implementing his tactical schemes.

Among those reporting back will be Vice-captain Ben Chilwell, coming off of another injury-hit campaign. Chilly was in fact limited to just 21 appearances last season and only 13 in the league: the second time in his four seasons at Chelsea that he's missed two-thirds of our Premier League matches.

Perhaps that injury record, combined with his relatively older age (when compared with the young pups in the squad) of 27, is what landed him on the Telegraph's "futures uncertain" list in yesterday's transfer roundup.

Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher being in that situation is nothing new, but Chilwell being in a similar predicament is - especially as it's being attributed to Enzo Maresca's expected tactical setup, and with Chelsea still linked with left-footed defenders (such as Murillo or Twitter-favorite Riccardo Calafiori) who could play a hybrid left-center back role!

The report does not provide any further detail beyond that declaration, but does add that we remain in the market for a "right-footed winger" (less so, say, a striker now) and that Robert Sanchez is expected to start the season as the first-choice goalkeeper.
