‘I can’t believe’: Chelsea told their player 'doesn't care if he gives the ball away 9/10 times' at Euro 2024

The new Premier League season is around the corner for Chelsea as they begin yet another new chapter.

Mauricio Pochettino left just after the end of the last campaign and it means that Chelsea have to restart yet again.

The new man in the dugout is Enzo Maresca and he would ideally like to get going pretty much straight away when pre-season gets underway for Chelsea during the next week.

But a number of his big stars are either at Euro 2024 or Copa America, so he will have to wait before he sees them on the pitch.

One of the biggest names Maresca will be looking forward to working with and relying upon next season is the man of the previous campaign - Cole Palmer.

Despite the 22-year-old scoring 22 Premier League goals last term, he has only played 73 minutes for England at Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate's side might be in the quarter-finals, but their performances have been pretty abject and many are screaming for Palmer to start.

Ashley Williams stated that he 'can't believe' the Chelsea playmaker didn't start England's fortunate 2-1 win over Slovakia and how he is such an 'enjoyable player to watch'.

The former Premier League defender added that Palmer plays with such ease that he 'doesn't care if he loses the ball 9/10 times', as he told Match of the Day.

Cole Palmer at Euro 2024 with England "I can't believe that he didn't start after what he did in the last game when he off the bench," said Williams.

"He is just an enjoyable player to watch. He should have been on the pitch from the start, in my opinion. He is one of the only players in that England team that is just playing footy. He is just playing with such freedom. Every time he gets on the ball, he is looking to create something.

"He is either getting his head up there and picking someone out or he is putting the ball into dangerous areas. Or he wants to get at his fullback straightaway. He has great balance. He is so comfortable in possession. He must be scratching his head a little thinking 'what else do I have to do to do when I get these little 15-20 minute cameos'. He makes England look like they can break teams down, which is what they are struggling with. This kid doesn't care if he gives the ball away 9/10 times because he keeps getting on it and keeps trying to do things and then it creates something special."

What's interesting is that during a period of the game against Slovakia, Saka was used as a left-back by Southgate.

Kieran Trippier went off injured after the hour mark and is now a doubt against Switzerland.

So, could Southgate now start Saka at left-back and then bring Palmer on the right wing? Even if Trippier is fit, many think Palmer now deserves his chance.

And even if Palmer doesn't start, he needs to come on much sooner because Southgate is taking way too long with his subs.
