Williams has been one of Spain's standout players at Euro 2024 this summer, scoring and assisting in their 4-1 thrashing of Georgia in the last-16 on Sunday, following on from a superb season with Athletic Bilbao.

The 21-year-old scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions for Bilbao in the last campaign and has interest from a number of teams. Cucurella is now attempting to convince the player to pick Chelsea amid competition from Barcelona, having watched him dazzle in Germany.

"He is a great player, he is bringing out all his potential," the former Brighton star told Spanish publication Sport. "It is a source of pride that he is on our team, that he is our teammate and with players like him everything is easier.

But it's not just Cucurella who is eager to have Williams on their team this summer in the Spain camp - with a tug-of-war kicking off after Barcelona midfielder Pedri stoked up speculation linking him with the Catalan giants.

"Nico Williams would be a spectacular signing for us at Barcelona, it'd be incredible,' he told Mundo Deportivo. "He's a player who is already showing what he's capable of. I hope he can join us!"

Arsenal are also reported to be keen on Williams, who has a release clause of PS46.5m. He has started three of Spain's four games at the Euros, playing 68 minutes in their opening 3-0 win over Croatia before registering 78 minutes in a 1-0 win over Italy.

Spain, managed by Luis de la Fuente, have looked like one of the strongest teams in Germany this summer, winning every game so far and conceding just once. The Spaniards - winners of this competition in 2012 - are gearing up for a huge quarter-final tie against hosts Germany on Friday evening.
