Ecuador's run at the Copa America came to an end last night when they were defeated on penalties by Argentina last night.

Chelsea's Moises Caicedo had put in a number of extremely strong performances for his country in the group stages.

His passion for the side saw him actually involved in a confrontation with one of his own teammates after one of the games.

It was clear that Caicedo was the key man though, and this seemed to be noticed by the now former Ecuador manager, Felix Sanchez.

Caicedo played behind the striker for Ecuador According to El Futbolero, he surprised many with how he lined his side up, and the Blues man featured in a far more attacking position than many at Stamford Bridge have got used to seeing him in.

He featured just behind the striker, however it was Enzo Fernandez and co who came out on top on penalties.

The World Cup winner did not start the opening game of the competition, however he looks to have regained his place in the starting side alongside Alexis Mac Allister.

Caicedo was obviously gutted with how the game played out, with his former Brighton teammate saying he was sad to see him the way he was afterwards.

It remains to be seen which configuration of midfielders Enzo Maresca decides to utilise at Stamford Bridge for the opening game of next season against Manchester City.

The Ecuadorian played his best football for Chelsea towards the end of last season, however it has to be noted that this was playing alongside Conor Gallagher rather than Fernandez.

There will be plenty of competition for the roles too, with Romeo Lavia and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also competing for minutes next season.
