Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella is trying to convince his compatriot Nico Williams to join the Blues amidst interest from Arsenal and Barcelona. Nico Williams' future has been the talk of the town for a while now. Multiple top clubs from across Europe are keeping a close eye on the Athletic Club Bilbao star following his impressive 2023/24 campaign. Chelsea are one of the clubs who are keen on his signature and their defender Marc Cucurella has admitted that he is trying to convince the young winger to join him at Stamford Bridge.
Williams has had an impressive rise at Athletic and he has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2021. At just 21, he is already a mainstay for both club and country. He was involved in 37 matches last season and he ended up contributing towards 27 goals (8 goals, 19 goals).
He has carried that form into Euro 2024 and has been putting in impressive performances. His national teammate Cucurella is quite impressive with his abilities and he is trying to convince him about making the move to Chelsea.
While talking to about Williams, the former Brighton fully admitted that he had a talk with the youngster about his future and has tried to convince him about joining. He said via Mirror: "He is a great player, he is bringing out all his potential,"
"It is a source of pride that he is on our team, that he is our teammate and with players like him everything is easier.
"He would be a great signing [for Barcelona], but it all depends on what he wants. I've been telling him to sign for Chelsea... In the end everything depends on him. He is very young, with a lot of experience. I think he will be a great player."
While there are still three years left on his deal at the Spanish club, there is a PS46.5 million release clause in his deal which will most likely lead to his departure this summer.
Chelsea are working on a potential deal as they look to reinforce the left flank. Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk haven't been consistent enough out wide on the left. As a result, the Blues want to bring in someone who can add more firepower to their attack.
Barcelona and Arsenal are also in the mix While Cucurella is trying to lure the young forward to Chelsea, they will face competition from Arsenal and Barcelona who have also been working towards signing the 21-year-old.
The Catalan giants want more firepower on the left flank. With Joao Felix's departure signing a new winger is a must for them and Williams could be an exceptional signing for them. He has already proven himself in the Spanish top flight and it won't take long for him to settle in.
The Gunners are also interested in signing the Athletic Club academy graduate. Mikel Arteta is keen on bolstering his squad as he looks to help Arsenal win the Premier League title after having come so close in the last two seasons. While they do have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, Williams could be an x-factor player for them in the final third given his qualities and huge potential.
