Chelsea have appointed former Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana into a talent management role covering Africa according to The Athletic.

The Blues are making a number of appointments amid a restructuring of the club's academy following the departure of long serving members of staff Neil Bath and Jim Fraser.

The club have already moved quickly and agreed a deal on Friday with Manchester City for head of coaching Glenn van der Kraan, who is expected to take up a key role in the revamped academy set up.

The report adds that Olofinjana will be in charge of recruitment recommendations across the continent and he will work closely with a newly-appointed scout that will cover Africa.

The Athletic state that due to Olofinjana's experience and expertise his role will be to help build up Chelsea's connections in Africa, streamline the pathway from Africa to Chelsea or sister club Strasbourg and help players settle in.

This latest appointment signals the club's intent to identify African talent earlier in the process rather than waiting for other clubs to pick talent up, develop it and sell it for a significant profit down the line.
