Bashir Humpreys is one step closer to leaving Chelsea after arriving in Burnley to take his medical ahead of a loan move to the Championship club.

The news was initially reported over the weekend, and it has now been confirmed by BBC writer Nizaar Kinsella that the defender is taking his medical tests today in order to confirm the move.

More Stories about Bashir Humphreys Kinsella's reporting of the situation to begin with was that it's a loan deal with an obligation to buy - so effectively a permanent transfer, just on a delay. That clearly suits Burnley, and we can survive without the cash flow for a year it seems.

It's not clear what kind of fee we will be getting, although he's valued at under EUR5m by Transfermarkt. We fully expect him to look excellent at Championship level once again, and could raise his value further. We certainly don't want to lock him in at a set price now and then watch him have an exceptional 12 months and move for cheap.

Humphrey the latest Cobham defender to move on Like so many of the brilliant Cobham produced defenders before him, Humphreys will not really get given a proper crack at the first team. He shone in preseason last year after the injury to Wesley Fofana gave him an unexpected chance in preseason, and he's really taken advantage of it.

He leveraged it to get a solid loan to Swansea last season, and now has upgraded to a team expected to be competing to return to the Premier League at the top of the table.

That should allow him to show off a bit more of his ability on the ball, and hopefully help him develop as a leader too. In 12 months time, he could be a key part of a Clarets team heading back up to the top flight, if all goes well.
