Al-Nassr have confirmed the signing of Chelsea winger Angelo Gabriel. The 19-year-old leaves Stamford Bridge on a permanent transfer just over 12 months after signing for the club.
Having come in from Santos for almost PS15million, the Blues are thought to have turned a profit on Angelo despite him never playing a senior game for Chelsea. Instead, the Brazilian spent last season out on loan at BlueCo-owned Ligue 1 outfit RC Strasbourg.
Angelo failed to score during his time under Patrick Vieira in a poor season for Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital's satellite club. However, he did manage four assists from the right of attack, playing regularly across the first half of the campaign before injury derailed his time.
Enzo Maresca was offered a brief chance to look at the teenager during pre-season, as Mauricio Pochettino did last year, but didn't offer him much game time in America. He will now join up with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle East.
The Pro League side announced the arrival of their newest recruit, writing online, "IT'S OFFICIAL! Angelo Gabriel is Nassrawi [star eyes emoji] Welcome to AlNassr [sic], Angelo [flame and yellow heart emoji]".
Angelo is one of many players signed by the current Chelsea ownership with a view to their long-term development or seeking a financial boost. Alongside Angelo, Chelsea also banked a significant PS20million fee for Omari Hutchinson just two years after picking him up from Arsenal on a free.
Having been capped by his country at age group level, Angelo will be aiming to once more make the step up in senior football. For Chelsea, the deal comes after Jadon Sancho arrived as the third attacking addition of the summer.
He joined from Manchester United on an initial loan with an obligation to buy. Chelsea also purchased Joao Felix and Pedro Neto as reinforcement for Maresca's frontline. Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke as right-sided players have already locked down one flank, creating competition for Angelo before his exit.
