Roy Keane has previously described Thomas Tuchel as a 'top-quality manager' as Manchester United line up the former Chelsea boss as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag.
United are 14th in the Premier League table and are already six points off the top four after an awful start to the campaign. Just three wins from their opening 11 games this season have left United in the bottom half of the table and without a win in the Europa League. The only teams United have beaten so far this term are Fulham, Southampton and League One Barnsley.
Ineos decided to stick with Ten Hag in the summer despite sounding out a number of potential replacements - one of which was Tuchel.
An FA Cup final success against Manchester City saw Ten Hag remain at the club despite United recording their lowest-ever Premier League finish, with the aforementioned cup success ensuring they would play European football this season after failing to finish in one of the European spots in the league.
The Manchester Evening News revealed on Monday that Tuchel has been lined up as a potential replacement for Ten Hag. It's understood that United admire other candidates who are already attached to clubs but the attraction of Tuchel is that he is immediately attainable.
If United were to part ways with Ten Hag and appoint Tuchel, the former Chelsea boss would be tasked with saving a season that is already threatening to end in disaster. But Keane clearly thinks Tuchel is up to the task.
Speaking to Sky Bet in July 2022 while Tuchel was in charge of Chelsea, Keane said: "There has obviously been loads of uncertainty over the club the last few months, that has been sorted out now obviously with the new ownership coming in.
"I'm pretty sure again he (Tuchel) will be able to bring some players in. He is a top-quality manager, he has dealt with a lot of issues over the last few months.
"Ultimately it was a disappointing end to the season for them. But he is a top-quality manager."
The former United captain went on to claim he would be 'amazed' if Tuchel was not in charge by the end of the year. Tuchel was sacked just two months later.
During his time in west London, Tuchel led Chelsea to back-to-back top-four finishes as well as the Champions League crown. It's fair to say Keane would approve if United decided to make their move.
