Despite a decent team performance, Chelsea fell to their second defeat of the season at Anfield yesterday.

The Blues were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool, with Nicolas Jackson's early second half goal not being enough to keep them in the game.

Enzo Maresca made a rare large amount of changes to his last Premier League side, with him having to replace the suspended Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana.

He also made the decision to not start Enzo Fernandez, who had returned to training late after representing Argentina on international duty.

His replacement was Romeo Lavia. The Belgian was making just his second start of the season and his first since the opening day of the season.

His performance alongside Moises Caicedo in the middle of the park was easily the highlight of the afternoon, and begged the question as to whether Chelsea fans had just seen their best midfield on display.

Supporters were very impressed by Lavia on social media, and remain excited about the prospects of him being a long-term member of their starting side.

Chelsea see Lavia as an 'elite talent' Chelsea reportedly see the midfielder as an 'elite talent', although are wary about managing his minutes as he returns to full fitness.

Maresca has made it clear that he is being tasked with playing one game a week at the moment, and he is not even a member of their group stage squad for the Conference League.

This allows him to not deal with the long travels across Europe, and be ready to give it his all in the Premier League.

Based on his two performances so far this season, there is an argument that he should be one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit and firing.
