Liverpool manager highlights inconsistency with Saliba red card

Like Saliba, Tosin committed a foul around the halfway line as an opponent looked to run into space behind the defence.

It was a cynical pull-back and certainly worthy of at least a yellow card, but after what had happened the previous day, the expectation was that the Chelsea defender would see red.

Saliba had initially been shown a yellow, but the decision was overturned by VAR, suggesting it was a clear and obvious error not to dismiss him.

"There's the decision of the red card which I saw yesterday [William Saliba sent off for Arsenal against Bournemouth], was a red card in a similar situation," Slot said, after also highlighting a penalty call not given to Liverpool in the first half.

"They're big decisions, because penalties and red cards influence a game a lot, but it's also nice that these moments are inside the game because it creates a lot of energy.

"The fans really stood up today, they helped us a lot and that probably comes from these decisions as well because they're just as biased as I am!"

In the end, the Gunners are the ones who suffered the most from the two incidents. First losing to Bournemouth and having Saliba suspended against Liverpool, then watching Chelsea's Tosin avoid a red with title-rivals Liverpool winning the match anyway.
