'Has to work on his game': BBC pundit says what 'tremendous' Chelsea player is missing after Liverpool defeat

Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson were not able to inspire Chelsea to victory against Liverpool on Sunday.

Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have been two of Chelsea's best players this season, but they could not prevent Liverpool from winning 2-1 at Anfield.

The latter, however, did manage to get his name on the scoresheet and played well overall. One pundit, though, still thinks there is much room for improvement.

As for his teammate, Palmer had a quiet game, according to another pundit, former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville.

Former West Ham United midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker, however, still thinks that the 23-year-old is lacking composure.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast, he said: "He is starting to score goals and has a lot more confidence and belief in himself. Some of that might be from Enzo Maresca coming in and putting his faith in him.

"I think he has tremendous potential. He has all the attributes of a striker as he is strong and quick. If he had the mindset of wanting to be a game killer and score 30 plus goals a season then he could.

"But he has to work on his game. The biggest thing he is missing is composure. If he can learn how to have that in vital moments then he will score a lot of goals."

While Jackson's finishing has often come in for criticism, his movement is praised a lot of the time. Leon Osman believes that Jackson makes good runs, for example.

Nicolas Jackson has shown composure this season In the previous campaign, Jackson certainly did squander a lot of one-v-ones. However, this term, that has not been the case.

He took his goal against Liverpool really well, while his two finishes away at West Ham were excellent. The Senegal international has shown a lot of improvement in that area of his game.

Chelsea have been linked with Alexander Isak and other centre-forwards. But if Jackson continues scoring and he becomes an even more composed No.9, then the Blues will not need to buy one, or at least not a high-profile one.

Maresca can be really happy with what he is getting from Jackson at the minute. Only Palmer has scored more Premier League goals than Jackson in Chelsea's squad.

The former Villarreal man should now be aiming for 20 top-flight goals by May, if he is not already.
