Johanna Rytting Kaneryd delighted after scoring ‘nicest goal of her career’ in derby day triumph

Chelsea were 5-2 victors over Tottenham on Sunday night after toppling their London rivals in a goalfest at Kingsmeadow. A Chelsea side inspired by Johanna Rytting Kaneryd put on a show for the some 4,152 fans in attendance as they cut the gap to leaders Manchester City to just one point once again. The Halfway Line had the chance to speak to the dynamic Swede after her Player of the Match performance.

A Player of the Match performance Rytting Kaneryd was quick to credit their opposition's performance in the first half and was delighted that the team could come out on top when stating, "I mean it was a tough game we were struggling, especially in the first half. I think they have some really quick players who made some difficulties for us but yeah, I feel like overall we played with a lot of intensity today and scored a lot of goals, so I am happy with the result."

The Swedish forward wrote her name on the scoresheet twice, talking the media through her goals when noting "The first goal was the nicest goal I have scored so far in my career. So yeah, I am very happy about that. And the second one with my left is something I have been working on a lot, it still works! So I am going to keep on doing that."

High praise for Sonia Bompastor When asked about playing under French head Coach Sonia Bompastor, Rytting Kaneryd praised her impact by stating "she is very clear with how she wants to use me and get my qualities out in the game. I'm very happy and feel like I'm in good shape right now."

For her first goal, Rytting Kaneryd stole in at the back post to fire home an immaculate winner. The forward mentioned that this is something Bompastor has been keen for her to do, stating "I've been practising to get to the back post. Sonia has been on me, they have been saying that a lot. It was all about getting the first touch."

It was a competitive first half, but Chelsea and Rytting Kaneryd came out firing in the second half to storm home to victory at home. When asked what her head coach asked them to work on at the break, she said "Definitely the intensity, I feel like its something we have been struggling with this season, when they [opposition sides this season] scored on us we lost a bit of confidence but tonight I think we did not. It was all about finding the rhythm, when to go high when to be lower. I think we did good in the second half coming out there, we felt confident. We were really chasing another goal."

'I enjoy every minute' of playing for Chelsea says Rytting Kaneryd Rytting Kaneryd is clearly loving her time in Chelsea blue she beamed about the club stating "I love it every day coming to work is just, yeah I enjoy every minute, we have a really group group of players and I think you can tell."

Maika Hamano 'a fantastic player' Throughout the match Rytting Kaneryd combined exceptionally well with Japanese attacker Maika Hamano, something she gushed about when asked about Hamano after the match. She praised, "She is a fantastic player. I feel like she has a lot of qualities. We have been working a lot during training and we really find each other in the games. I'm just happy to be able to play with her. It is really fun when you can help each other."

Rytting Kaneryd herself is in firing form at the moment and will now link-up with the Swedish National team squad to face Luxembourg in the play offs for qualification to EURO 2025.
