Liam Rosenior's coy one-word answer about Hull City's January transfer window progress

Liam Rosenior says Hull City have a clear plan of attack for the upcoming January transfer window as the Tigers look to cement their place in the thick of the play-off race.

City are nicely placed in eighth position after 16 games of the season following Saturday's 1-0 home win over Huddersfield Town and are level on points with Sunderland who occupy the final play-off berth and visit the MKM Stadium in what looks to be a festive cracker on Boxing Day.

The Tigers boss will be backed in the notoriously challenging winter window by owner Acun Ilicali with the club understood to be keen on adding attacking options to their squad in a bid to boost their hopes of earning a place inside the top six.

When asked how things were going ahead of January, Rosenior's response was with no shortage of humour. "Good," was his one-word response. "We're always planning ahead. I know what I want and we know what we want as a club, and we're working towards that at the moment."

Ilicali, who funded the purchase of Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa in the latter stages of the summer window, will again support his manager if and when required. "I wouldn't say there is (a budget). It depends on the deal. For example, Jaden Philogene, we talk about his price tag but I think he's probably worth four or five times that already now. Everything we look at, we look at each player or each deal in its entirety in isolation and is right for the club. We've had a lot of meetings recently about how we can make things even better for us. We won't be super-busy in January but if the right ones come up then we'll be in a position to make a move.

"It's a really difficult window," he continued. "It's really important (for fans to understand). If you're working in the Championship then any player of value in the Championship is probably at a club that's successful and pushing towards the top end or at the same time is at a club that's struggling and wants to stay in the league.

"It's really, really difficult to get the right deal financially for each player. We have to bear in mind that last year I joined pretty much at this stage, so we've had conversations from the summer rolling into January which is going to be different.

"I know what we need and I'm really confident as well. If you look at the players we brought in pretty much 90/95 per cent have been successful and improving so we're even more of a viable option for players that want to come in. It puts us in a really, really strong position."
