Ian at Legends Day

CCFPA would like to wish our member and former Sky Blue Ian Goodwin a wonderful birthday today! Ian continues to be very much of a regular with his family at Sky Blues home games and has also taken up our 'special guest' duties from time to time. Born on 14th November 1950 Ian is celebrating his 73rd birthday today!

Ian who is a Mancunian (more exactly Irlam) by birth, was apprenticed at nearby Oldham Athletic when his brother Stephen was invited to a trial at Highfield Road in the late sixties and Ian drove him to Coventry and got roped in!

It was Ian who was offered an apprenticeship in Jimmy Hill's Sky Blues' youth factory and Ian turned professional in March 1969 awaiting his eventual debut at right midfield in a Division One 2-0 win at Ipswich Town's Portman Road.

Competition in the Sky Blues defence at the time was fierce and 'Reggie', as he was nicknamed, only made four first team appearances before being loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion in October 1970 to gain experience.

In March 1971 the loan turned into a permanent move and Ian made sixty appearances for the Albion until released in 1974, playing for the Seagulls latterly under Brian Clough.

Ian then moved his family to Nuneaton and turned out for the 'Borough' and other local teams before hanging up his boots.

Ian is an active CCFPA member regularly turning out at Association events like Legends Day.

Until a fairly recent knee operation he participated fully with colleagues in SBitC's 'Walking Football' locally and our Legends XI charity games. He has since come along to both as a 'supporter'.

He has a great sense of humour which has sometimes been of great benefit when watching some of CCFC's games over the years!

Have a great one today Ian. Together with wife Lynn and sometimes daughter Claire it is great to see you at pretty well every game! PUSB
