Chelsea defender Thiago Silva could end up signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

That is according to a report from the Daily Mirror.

It claims that while Fluminense want to bring Thiago Silva back to Brazil, the 39-year-old could end up putting pen to paper on a fresh deal because his son Isago is still under contract at Chelsea until 2025.

Both of Silva's sons currently play for Chelsea's academy.

His existing deal expires at the end of the season.

While he may be turning 40 next year, he is still easily one of their best players, with Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills stunned by the fact that the Brazil international is still performing at this level.

Silva has not missed a top-flight game yet for Chelsea this season and some of his numbers have been very good.

For example, according to WhoScored, the centre-back has a pass success percentage of 95.6%. No player in Mauricio Pochettino's squad has a higher percentage (minimum of one start in the Premier League).

Silva, who has been described as "world-class" by Gary Neville on Sky Sports in the past, is obviously a great defender. But he is also a player who is so calm and composed on the ball.

Chelsea do have other capable centre-halves at the club, the likes of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile. However, will any of them be able to fill Silva's shoes when he leaves west London? Possibly not, so the Blues should be looking to keep hold of the former Paris Saint-Germain man for as long as they can. If his legs are still working, there is no reason to let him go.
