Newcastle United do not have it easy in the transfer market.

Indeed, the higher Newcastle keep challenging in both the Premier League and Champions League, the smaller the pool of players who can realistically come in and strengthen what they have gets.

That's without even mentioning rival interest that may emerge to complicate matters.

Juventus, for example, are reportedly keen on signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City despite Newcastle's interest.

It was something Newcastle had to deal with in the summer too. James Maddison, after all, was long touted as a target before Tottenham eventually signed him.

Now, Spurs are expected to move for a "full package" the Magpies have considered.

Samuel Iling-Junior: Tottenham line up swoop on Juventus winger According to The Independent, Spurs are interested in a move for Juve's Samuel Iling-Junior - previously linked with the Toon - in January.

The 20-year-old is said to be highly rated at Juve but they are understood to have a good working relationship with Spurs, potentially opening up the avenue to facilitate a January transfer.

Iling-Junior is a winger who can also play in midfield and was hailed as a "full package" by ex-Chelsea and Spurs academy coach Saul Isaksson-Hurst, who trains a number of players through his 'My Football Coach' business.

"Samuel brings the full package to the party, he has got everything," he told The Standard.

"Chelsea are big on physical assets and he brings strength and power but he matches that also with amazing quality technique.

"He is almost like a street footballer with his skill and balance. He brings almost everything to the table. He can play seven, eleven, a 10 or even in central midfield."

The Athletic suggest the club will look to bolster their attacking options in January but could instead move for a versatile option to play across the frontline rather than a traditional No.9.

Iling-Junior would certainly fit that mould as well as fit in with the kind of age profile PIF have targeted since the takeover.

Getting a deal done, however, does not look easy given the rival interest.
