Leeds United's Championship rivals demand big transfer window change to avoid 'turbulence'

One of Leeds United's Championship rivals have called for a big change to the transfer window system.

Coventry City boss Mark Robins feels clubs should be able to trade all year round.

The Sky Blues chief has expressed his frustration with the current system that sees the market remain open until the back end of August - three weeks into the start of the season.

Robins, who led Coventry to the FA Cup semi-final last year, wants the transfer window to be scrapped.

Robins was unhappy with the way he felt attacking midfielder Kasey Palmer "forced" his deadline day move to Hull City, leaving the club unable to react in time to get in a replacement.

Speaking to our sister title CoventryLive, Robins said: "I'd rather there not be a transfer window and go back to be able to do transfers any time.

But if we are going to have a transfer window it shouldn't be during the season.

"As soon as the season starts it's got to shut.

It makes sense.

It doesn't make sense when you get situations like with Burnley, who started the season and now they have got a different team.

"It must be difficult for everyone concerned.

It's certainly difficult for us because we have got a number of people who are agitating to get moves and unsettle people to create turbulence which means you may have to do something or end up with an unhappy player.

"The Sky Blues, who visit Elland Road on September 28, have garnered just four points from their opening four fixtures.

Robins added: "But honestly, there needs to be a reality check because you look at normal life and football and it's just totally out of proportion.

People need to get a reality check and understand that we're really fortunate in this game.

The fact that you get a contract and go and work for the people who pay their hard earned money to watch you.

That's all you're required to do.

"But as far as the transfer window goes, it should shut before the season starts.

"United endured another big turnover of players this summer after agonisingly missing out on promotion, with attacking duo Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter departing for Premier League clubs last month.

There was a flurry of late activity late in the window as Largie Ramazani, Manor Solomon, Ao Tanaka and Isaac Schmidt came through the door to increase the options at Daniel Farke's disposal.
