Coventry City Q&A: Slump in results, January help, goalkeeper question and formation change
Source:Coventrytelegraph

Coventry City slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat at the weekend when they went down 3-2 at bogey ground Deepdale, home of Preston North End. The dismal run is the first time the Sky Blues have strung that many losses together since the start of last season, after which there was a marked recovery as Mark Robins' men clawed their way up the Championship table and into the play-offs.

But 12 months on, are City as well equipped to recover vital ground and pull away from the bottom end of the league? The January transfer window provides an important opportunity for the club to add some much needed quality in midfield where the team are still struggling to come to terms with the loss of Gustavo Hamer.

City's new strikers, meanwhile, have taken time to get going but there are promising signs from Haji Wright, who scored twice at the weekend, while Ellis Simms looked strong and powerful when he went on at the break. That coincided with Robins switching formation from his tried and trusted three at the back and wing-backs to a flat back four and two banks of three.

The forward line of Simms, Matty Godden and Wright worked to good effect in a transformed second half performance, so is it time to go with a 4-3-3 system from the start? If so, who would make up the back line and midfield? The defence has come under the spotlight in recent weeks as Robins continues to search for a solid and settled combination.

The goalkeeper position has also been up for debate with some fans believing it's time to make a switch and give summer signing Brad Collins a chance following a couple of handling errors from first choice Ben Wilson.
