'Eyes on' - Coventry City boss seeks clarity on numbers as he looks forward to January transfer window

Mark Robins admits he's looking forward to the January transfer window when he can add to his Coventry City squad and help "make things better."

The Sky Blues boss's priority is a dynamic midfielder to help fill the void left by Gustavo Hamer's summer departure but he's revealed he may be able to get more than one player at the mid-term trading point. City are desperate to bring a halt to a four game losing run when they take on Stoke City at the Coventry Building Society Arena this weekend.

The new-look squad has taken time to settle and gel, and midfield is an area that clearly needs addressing as a matter of urgency in the New Year. "We're just working towards the goal of getting this squad balanced and right again, so I'm looking forward to the January window to try to add and make things better again," said the City manager, who revealed his recruitment department is beavering away behind the scenes.

Robins admits that he needs to sit down and discuss exactly what he can do with owner Doug King, saying: "We're working towards what we can do. We need to get a little bit more clarity around that but, other than that, all the work is going on. So all it needs is for everybody to be in agreement and get aligned and push the button. So all the work that's been done will hopefully come to fruition because I think there's still more to do.

"We certainly need to get eyes on one or two, but ultimately it's ready to go. And yeah, it's just a case of putting the finishing touches in terms of the decisions on certain individuals. But once that happens, and that will happen pretty quickly now, we'll just get on and things will start to kick in."

Asked by CoventryLive if he's hopeful of signing at least two new players in January, he added: "I wouldn't like to speak in specifics. I think if we get one that's a really good addition then whatever happens, I'll be really happy with that. But ultimately we've just got to have a sit down and talk through that."
