CCFPA, on behalf of the Sky Blue family, wishes our member Danny Thomas, one of the small number of players who earned England caps whilst playing with the Sky Blues, a very happy 62nd Birthday for today!!

Born in Worksop, Notts on 12th November 1961 he was capped twice by England during their Australian tour in June 1983, playing 137 minutes for the national side. He is the only English player to win the UEFA Under-21 Championship twice playing seven times for the U21s between 1981-84.

Danny, a stylish full back started who as a junior with CCFC in 1976 turning professional in 1978 played nearly 130 times for the Sky Blues before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in close season 1983 where he played nearly ninety league games. Unfortunately his career was curtailed four years later through injury.

Danny's last appearance for 'Spurs was in March 1987 when he suffered a severe knee injury in a match against Queen's Park Rangers leading to him announcing his retirement from the game in 1988, aged just 26, as the injury proved too much of an obstacle to return to the game he loved.

Danny completed a Physiotherapy degree after his career came to an end at the age of 26. The PFA also supported him in gaining a Master's degree. He gained professional experience as a physio at West Bromwich Albion and later ran his own practice in Coventry before moving to the USA and plying his trade in private practise in Florida. Danny last visited us for a CCFPA celebrity Q&A well over a decade ago in 2010 (pictured below).

There is an excellent profile (from 2020) on Danny with some great photos written by Rob Mason on the CCFC website which can be found here.
