Michael & Billy with the signed Maltese shirt

Posts yesterday and the previous day have covered the visit, as our 'special guest', of Maltese international and ex Sky Blue forward Michael Mifsud to CCFC last Saturday, Armistice Day. Michael was making his first return to the club since his Sky Blues days (2007-09) when the nicknamed 'Maltese Messi' grabbed a decent score rate including some memorable strikes netting 23 times in his 95 league and cup outings. Instrumental in organising and facilitating Michael's visit to the City was Association Vice Chairman Billy Bell, who spent some time with Michael from the time of his arrival (picked up from the airport by Billy's fellow CCFPA committee members Richard and Sarah Morris) and during his day with us at the club's Championship game with Stoke City. Billy, of course, rounded off the day with 'the Mosquito' another of the diminutive striker's nicknames with an entertaining chat from the stage of Lady Gs lounge in the G-Casino. We showed a video of the pair joining in a rendition of the Sky Blue song in our post yesterday.

Billy had also commissioned a special badge (above) appropriately combining the Maltese Cross (the emblem of Michael's home, whose people collectively earned the George Cross during WW2 for their bravery and fortitude), the Association badge and the poppy of remembrance.

The badge was worn by all CCFPA staff present at the game (left)and Michael proudly wore one of them throughout the day.

Michael also had a present for Billy and the Association, a signed Maltese international shirt (above right) and Billy gratefully accepted the gift from him. For his country, where he has become a renowned elder statesman of the sporting world winning many national awards, Michael has clocked up an impressive 42 goals in 143 appearances for Malta over fully two decades (2000-2020).

Thanks Michael for the gift. We know you enjoyed your day with us and look forward to you coming to see us again soon!
