Jurgen Klopp's brutally honest assessment on Liverpool's title chances speaks volumes

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tore into his team after they lost ground in the Premier League title race following a disappointing 1-0 loss against Crystal Palace at Anfield

Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool will not win the Premier League if they play as badly as they did in the first half of their damaging defeat to Crystal Palace.

Eberechi Eze scored in the first period to consign Liverpool to their second home defeat in four days and Klopp says they will not overhaul Manchester City and Arsenal playing like that.

"If we play like we did in the first half, why should we win the league?" said the Liverpool boss. "If you play like we did in the second half, we can win football games. So if we can win football games, then we will see how many we can win.

"We have to be around when the other guys struggle, if they struggle. Criticism in these moments is completely fine and absolutely right.

Liverpool have failed to score in their last two losses despite registering 40 goal attempts and Andy Robertson bemoaned their wastefulness. "It's been the story of the last few games and that's why we've been punished in these games," said the Scotland defender.

"It's so frustrating today, so many chances. In the first half, I thought we were poor, but in the second half we had enough chances to win two or three games."

"The confidence we had, the chances we created and how compact we were and congrats to the team for the passion and spirit we had in the second half for how we defended."

Liverpool's loss means they are two points behind reigning champions Manchester City, although Arsenal could leapfrog both teams and nudge themselves ahead of the Reds by three points with a win against Aston Villa.
