Marco Silva's side picked up a point against an in-form Crystal Palace side but were lucky not to be out of the match in the opening half hour with a slew of mistakes allowing the Eagles to dominate. Eventually, Fulham took the lead when a diving Rodrigo Muniz nodded home a Timothy Castagne cross.

The visitors then found an equaliser with just minutes left to play as Jeffrey Schlupp rocketed a shot from outside of the boy into the top corner. Speaking on The Footballer's Football Podcast, Cairney said: "We were poor. We were poor in the first half, we could've been 3-0 down.

"They're in a really good moment, their manager has them playing high press with five at the back. They are a very good team and have matchwinners in Olise and Eze, although he [Eze] wasn't fit."

It was mission accomplished for Schlupp, who had been brought on by Glasner in a bid to find a leveller for his side. The midfielder's cameo from the bench was a stark contrast to that of Cairney's, with Silva turning to the captain to see out the game just moments before Crystal Palace scored.

Cairney said: "We went 1-0 up against the run of play and couldn't hold on to the three points. What a goal by Schlupp! It's even worse when you get brought on to see the game out and they score 30 seconds later. He's got power, he's a powerful boy.

West Ham striker Antonio is also on the BBC podcast and couldn't help but chuckle at the quality of Schlupp's goal and the unfortunate moment it came in for Cairney. The Hammers man joked: "He [Silva] messed up, he shouldn't have brought Tom on!"

He went on to banter that his Fulham pal "ain't got pace" as he acclimatised to the game. Cairney replied: "I'm slower than a week in jail, man!"
