The centre-back shone on loan at Belgian side RWD Molenbeek last season, prompting Lyon to sign him from Palace for around PS1m this summer.
Lyon, who are also owned by Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor, are in crisis at the bottom of Ligue 1, but O'Brien has just helped Fabio Grosso's side to their first win of the season.
Jake O'Brien scores for Lyon The Irishman scored against Rennes this weekend, helping Lyon to a 1-0 away win, their first victory in 11 league games this season.
Rennes found themselves down to ten men early on, but Lyon were still struggling to break the hosts down until O'Brien flew in with a diving header to give his side the lead.
The defender celebrated passionately and helped his side then keep a clean sheet to secure a much-needed win.

"Thank you for sticking by us, that was for you OL supporters!" He tweeted.
Whilst he may be thriving at Lyon, he was unlikely to get the same opportunity at Palace, with Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi the undisputed first-choice partnership at the back, and it is nice to see a former talent from the academy gaining praise at a top European side.
