Thomas Receives First Jamaica CallFriday, 18th Oct 2024 20:25

Ipswich Town Women's all-time top scorer and appearance-maker Natasha Thomas has been named in the Jamaica squad for the first time.

The Reggae Girlz face France and South Africa in friendlies. The game against France is next Friday at the Stade Auguste-Bonal, home of FC Sochaux-Montbeliard, while Jamaica host the South Africans at home on on November 29th and December 2nd.

Thomas, 28, will become the women's club's first ever full international if she makes it onto the field, adding to her already long list of Town records.

Earlier in the year, keeper Nina Meollo was twice included in the Philippines squad but was left on the bench throughout the tournament.

Thomas recently took her Town appearances to a new club record 216 games, while she has scored 152 goals.

Men's first-team manager Kieran McKenna paid tribute to Lowestoft-born Thomas, who is a trustee of the Ipswich Town Foundation, for her appearance record at his press conference this afternoon.

"It's a great achievement so we're all very proud of her and she's a really well-known and well-respected member of the club, for sure," he said.

"She's the longest-serving player in the women's team now and record appearance-maker, top goal-scorer and the leader in a young group.

"Any interactions I've had with her around the club or the work she does with the foundation, she's a fantastic role model on and off the pitch and we're all very proud of her and happy to have her part of the club.

"Of course, the team has got off to a good start, is picking up good results and is performing well, so that's great to see. I'm sure they're going to have a good year."
