Everton FC. Ipswich Town vs Everton: Premier League Preview, Gameweek 8,...
Source:VAVEL |

Football returns to club action this weekend, with Everton making a trip down to Suffolk to play newly-promoted side Ipswich Town.

It is the Tractor Boys first season back in the Premier League since they were relegated 22 years ago in 2002 and they are finding life difficult back in the top-flight as they are still winless heading into this match.

Everton, on the other hand, head into this game in relatively good form as they are unbeaten in their last three Premier League matches, most recently drawing 0-0 against Newcastle United.

Ipswich were battered in their last game by West Ham, 4-1 was the final score which was a concerning result for the Tractor Boys as West Ham have been poor so far this season, yet they made easy work of the Suffolk outfit.

The Toffees definitely do have reason to be concerned though as their record away at newly-promoted sides is horrific, having only won one of their last seven away games at teams who have just came up.

When these two sides last met in the 2001/02 season, when the home side were last in the top-flight, Ipswich actually defeated Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park, with Matt Holland grabbing the winner for the Suffolk-based side that day.

Sean Dyche will be hoping for a better display than that of 22 years ago when they travel to Portman Road on Saturday.

Team News Ipswich:

Axel Tuanzebe will be missing for this game and possibly for months as he was injured in a freak accident where Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna revealed that he was close to losing his thumb.

Jens Cajuste will miss this game also through a knock but should just miss this game whereas Massimo Luongo will be out for a few weeks with injury.

Meanwhile, new summer signing Dara O'Shea will be assessed ahead of the game meaning there is a chance he could feature.

Sean Dyche confirmed in his press conference that James Garner has picked up a back injury and will be missing for the Toffees trip to Portman Road after a good performance against Newcastle.

Tim Iroegbunam will also miss this weekends action and may be sidelined for a number of weeks as he has picked up a foot injury.

Star centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite has returned to full first-team training this week after missing the game against Newcastle, he may feature on Saturday but there is also a possibility that he might not be fit enough.

Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti will also miss the contest as they both continue to recover from each of their respective long-term injuries.

Likely lineups Ipswich: Muric, Johnson, O'Shea, Greaves, Davis, Morsy, Phillips, Hutchinson, Burns, Clarke, Delap

Everton: Pickford, Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Doucoure, Gueye, Harrison, Ndiaye, McNeil, Calvert-Lewin

Key Players Ipswich - Liam Delap

Ipswich signed Liam Delap in the summer from Manchester City for about PS20 million after a rather unremarkable loan spell at Hull City in the Championship.

However, the 21-year-old has been in fine form for the Tractor Boys this season - scoring four goals in seven Premier League appearances as Ipswich's top goalscorer this season.

Some of these goals included a brace at home against Aston Villa, his second goal in that game was fantastic as he completely sold Diego Carlos with some sublime stepovers before whipping a fierce shot past Emiliano Martinez.

Having also scored goals against West Ham and Fulham, he possesses all the attributes of a top striker - Delap is good with the ball at his feet, he is a superb finisher, good in the air whilst also being a smart forward.

Delap was a gamble for Ipswich, with many raising eyebrows at the price payed for the Manchester City academy graduate, but so far this season it looks as if he is worth every penny.

Everton - Dwight McNeil

Dwight McNeil has had a change in position this season and it appears to be bringing the best out of him as he has been fantastic for the Toffees so far this season which led to him being nominated for the September Player of the Month award.

The 24-year-old has five goal contributions in seven games this season, in Everton's only win this season against Crystal Palace, he curled a beauty of a shot into the top left corner to make the score all square before scoring the eventual winner against the Eagles only moments later.

Usually deployed on the left-wing, McNeil has been moved into a more central role this season playing just behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sean Dyche's men are reaping the rewards of his position change as he has been magical.

The Toffees will have to hope he is in the same kind of form as he has been all season if they are to leave Suffolk with three points on Saturday.
