Everton were in for so many players over the summer, and yet only managed to bring a handful of them to Goodison Park.

However, those who have joined have all pretty much made their impact, Jake O'Brien aside.

There were a number of areas that were in desperate need of particular rejuvenation, and for the most part, Kevin Thelwell did well to bolster.

However, out wide they were left frustratingly bare, seeing Jaden Philogene, Largie Ramanzani, Wilfried Gnonto and many more all opt against a move to Merseyside, having to eventually settle for Jesper Lindstrom.

Whilst some collapsed signings will still sting Everton, there are others who they might look back on now and feel fortunate to have failed.

Everton tried to sign Kalvin Phillips in the summer One prime example of this kind of player actually featured for Ipswich Town yesterday, with Kalvin Phillips starting and playing 71 minutes for the hosts.

Brought in on loan from Manchester City, it always felt like they were battling with the Toffees for his signature amongst other Premier League clubs.

However, whether it be due to an inability to fund the loan, or just the player preferring a move to Portman Road, his switch to Merseyside fell through.

Ipswich Town saved Everton from a transfer blunder And, with how he performed yesterday compared to Everton's midfield, Sean Dyche will likely be glad of this transfer faux pas.

After all, he was anonymous in the engine room, which left acres upon acres of room for the Toffees to explore.

To reinforce Phillips' mediocrity, he would win just five of the ten duels he competed in, was dribbled past once, and even made another error that led to a shot for Everton, via Sofascore.

With Idrissa Gana Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure, James Garner, Tim Iroegbunam and Orel Mangala to pick from in his midfield, Dyche is sitting pretty without Phillips.
