Patrick Bamford has struggled at Leeds United.

(Credit: Imago)HomeStats & Tactics Fri 16 August 2024 20:51, UKPatrick Bamford is yet again the focus of Leeds United fans after a goalless start to the 2024/25 season.

After two games - both at Elland Road - Leeds have one draw and one defeat to their name with six goals conceded.

Newly promoted Portsmouth took a point back to the south coast with them in the opening Championship game before Middlesbrough embarrassed Daniel Farke's side in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

In both games, Bamford looked lost, out of his depth and completely useless.

In fairness to the former Chelsea striker, he played just 11 minutes as a substitute in the draw against Portsmouth but, as per stats by WhoScored, only managed to complete one of the three passes he attempted and his only shot at goal didn't hit the target, generating an xG of just 0.

However, against Middlesbrough, Farke trusted Bamford from the off and handed the striker his first competitive start since scoring in the 4-3 win away at Middlesbrough on 22 April.

Leeds fans had to endure a completely different Bamford from the one who scored in that game though as stats by Fotmob show that he managed just one shot at goal, which went well wide of the target, had only 22 touches in the whole 90 minutes he played, didn't complete a single dribble and lost four of the five duels he contested.

All in all, it was a shocker of a display from the 30-year-old and it's amazing that Leeds are still trying with the one-time England international.

Will Leeds United sell Patrick Bamford before August deadline passes? Leeds fans have said goodbye to Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and Crysencio Summerville this summer with Georginio Rutter looking as though he's set to follow them through the door [Florian Plettenberg].

Going into the summer, no fans wanted to see those four players leave.

It was expected that there'd be interest, yes.

But for all four of them key players from last season to go in one fell swoop is a sickener for Leeds supporters across the globe.

Daniel Farke is in his second season as Leeds United manager.

But there's one man who's surviving the nuclear fall-out at Elland Road and that's Bamford, who time and time again is kept on despite not being any good for the Whites since COVID passports were still a thing.

After bagging 17 goals in 38 Premier League games in 2021/22, Bamford has had continual injury issues and when he has played, he's been utterly dreadful despite a brief spell last season.

He'll turn 31 next month and still has another two years left on his contract, which is likely to be one of the best-paid ones at Elland Road.

Maybe there are no buyers for him because he's so inept at scoring goals or maybe it is the possibility of him earning a lot of money at Leeds that's putting potential suitors off.

Either way, Leeds don't look to have made any effort to part company with a player who is a has-been at Elland Road - and has been for a while.

In other Leeds United news, fans will be in uproar if this former Whites player is re-sign as rumours as relayed on The Square Ball.
