If City are still top of the league after Christmas, some bold moves can be made in the winter market, although Enzo Maresca will not want to disrupt the squad too much. But if opportunities arise for top players to get on board for a Premier League return, they may be too good to turn down.

Players Maresca has managed before, plus the plethora of talented youngsters at Manchester City, could prove vital to a potential January strategy. Moves that failed to materialise in the summer could also be completed six months later.
