Leicester City now look set to wrap up their sixth signing of the summer with a PS20 million deal close for a Tottenham player.

Steve Cooper saw his start to life as Leicester City manager dampened by the departure of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea in order to comply with PSR.

However, with the PS30 million injection of cash associated with that deal Leicester believe they have avoided a breach of spending rules and have subsequently been adding to their squad since the 30th June deadline.

That has seen Abdul Fatawu make last season's loan move permanent, whilst Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli and Bobby De Cordova-Reid have all also arrived at the King Power.

Facundo Buonanotte is the latest arrival - joining on loan from Brighton - but a sixth signing now looks imminent as Leicester are moving fast to get a deal over the line.

Leicester City 'reach agreement' to sign Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Cooper wants further additions before the end of the transfer window in order to have the best chance possible of keeping Leicester in the Premier League.

The need for a striker has become desperate with Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka both injured and a deal for Adam Hlozek being hijacked by Hoffenheim.

However, it is a midfielder that Cooper looks set to sign.

That is according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, who has posted on 'X': "Leicester City reach agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Oliver Skipp.

"23-year-old midfielder set to undergo medical today before completing permanent move from Tottenham to Leicester.

Viewed as good deal all round.

Clubs meet in Premier League opener tomorrow.

"Skipp has been highly-rated since he was a youngster at Tottenham but has struggled to ever cement a place in the first-team.

At 23, now seems the right time for the midfielder who played with Harry Winks at Spurs to move on.

The former England under-21 International received praise from Glenn Hoddle on TNT Sports for his intervention in a win over Brentford in January which prevented a certain goal.

Hoddle said: "It's a fabulous bit of defensive work as well.

The little ball goes in, Toney's offside, it's true he doesn't attempt to play the ball.

He leaves it.

"But Skipp, his awareness defensively to get that is amazing.

He covered the ground, it's excellent defending.

"Leicester could certainly do with this kind of defensive nous from a midfielder, but it is somewhat surprising the club are willing to spend so much on a midfielder who plays a similar role to that of Winks and Wilfred Ndidi.

Many Foxes fans may well be left scratching their heads with this one, with a striker surely the signing that funds should be earmarked for amid the club's financial situation.
