Leicester City could face a double points deduction that might jeopardise their chances of staying in the Premier League.

The Foxes, who were relegated in 2023 but made an immediate return by winning the Championship last season, are now under scrutiny for their spending during the 2022-23 accounting period.

Despite denying any wrongdoing and contesting the charges while they were not in the top flight, questions remain about their financial compliance last season.

According to The Sun, the EFL conducted a real-time investigation into the club's challenges and the Premier League is expected to push for two separate penalties for the 2015-16 league champions.

This wouldn't be the first time a Premier League club has been hit with two points penalties in one season - Everton suffered the same fate last term due to offences in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 accounting periods.

Under the competition's Profit and Sustainability Rules, teams are limited to PS105m in losses across three seasons, and failure to comply can result in punishments including points deductions.

Everton had an initial 10-point deduction reduced to six on appeal, with a further two-point penalty following.

Nottingham Forest faced a points deduction last season and despite an unsuccessful appeal to have it reduced, they along with Everton managed to avoid relegation, reports the Mirror.

Leicester, although less active than fellow promoted teams Southampton and Ipswich in the transfer window, have made some new signings.
