HomeExclusives Sun 18 August 2024 15:09, UKLeicester City will land a "big" points deduction this year despite reports suggesting their case could run into 2025.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider there is no reason why the process will be dragged out into next year if their hearing takes place within the next couple of months.

Leicester were charged in March with a breach of the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR) for 2022-23.

The club reported losses of PS89.

7million in 2022-23, with top-flight sides only permitted to lose PS105million over a three-year period.

The Telegraph reported on 13 August the case could drag on into next year as a verdict is still likely to be months away.

Leicester case could be concluded in next few months But Borson insisted that scenario is unlikely as he expects Leicester to be handed a significant points deduction this year.

MORE INSIDER STORIES"It was a bit of a strange article because it was slightly contradictory," Borson told Football Insider.

"It suggested that they expected a penalty of up to six points.

A penalty of up to six points is pretty serious and suggests that they are aware that they have breached by quite a bit.

"We are talking here about 2022-23 still because of the way they have delayed the whole process.

There is also likely to be another breach for 2023-24, which will also be heard next season.

"But the article suggested that it would all drag on because they would have the first hearing regarding 2022/23 in the first half of the season, but then there would be some kind of elongated process to appeal that, and then that would come through after January.

"But I don't really think that's likely.

I think there is no reason why that hearing on 2022-23 shouldn't take place in September or October, then about a month later you would have a decision, and then within about six weeks of that you would have an appeal decision.

"We know the timescales that can be achieved on these appeals from the Everton and Nottingham Forest appeals.

"Although they are not guided in the same way because Leicester weren't captured by the change of rules, which gives this a very accelerated timetable.

"I think Leicester and the Premier League's teams when they get in front of the independent commission would agree to timetables that are relatively quick.

"I would expect the process to run quite quickly after the initial hearing, so I wasn't really sure about the stuff that was in that piece about Leicester.

"I do think they will get quite a big points deduction for this year.

"In other news, Leicester and Crystal Palace told cost of Wilfried Zaha deal.
