Oxford win at Leyton Orient: Three talking points
Source: Oxford

Oxford United's tenure post Liam Manning ended with a win with a five-goal thriller in London.

A Ruben Rodrigues brace and assist for Billy Bodin put the U's three goals up at Leyton Orient but the hosts netted twice to set up a nervy ending.

Here are three talking points from the game:

Line-Up and Formation Unsurprisingly, interim head coach Craig Short set his team up pretty much as expected.

James Beadle began in goal behind a back four of Greg Leigh, Ciaron Brown, Elliott Moore and Fin Stevens.

Cameron Brannagan and Marcus McGuane sat behind a trio of Bodin, Rodrigues and Stanley Mills while Mark Harris led the line.

Ruben Rodrigues Arguably his best performance in an Oxford shirt, Ruben Rodrigues put in a sublime display in the capital.

His constant pressing caused problems throughout and it led to the opening goal as the goalkeeper passed the ball straight to Harris who supplied the Portuguese before he dispatched a brilliant effort.

He could have had a second before the break but his curling effort struck the post, but Bodin was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Less than a minute after the restart, he bundled the ball home after Orient failed to clear it on three separate occasions.

Even towards the end, with the score at 3-2, his work rate remained a constant and he battled for every ball.

Tale of Two Halves Oxford didn't really need to get out of gear in the first half but found themselves two goals up by the break. Adding a third immediately after the restart, however, almost gave the U's a false sense of security.

The O's pulled one back immediately with Oxford failing to clear a whipped cross, which was bundled into his own net off Stevens, before the hosts hit another from a set piece.

In the first half, Harris could have had a hat trick and he also hit the bar with a clever chip after the restart but at 3-2, Orient looked like the only team that would score a sixth goal.

However, Craig Short introduced Stephan Negru in place of Mills and shifted to a back five and Oxford held on to claim a massive three points.
