Liverpool fans represented by solicitors claim physical and psychological harm at the 2022 Champions League final in Paris

Uefa accused of trying to prevent case from being heard in English court

Law firm representing fans wants the case to be heard in Liverpool

Solicitors representing Liverpool fans who allege they suffered physical and psychological harm during the 2022 Champions League final in Paris have accused Uefa of attempting to block their case from being heard in an English court. The law firm, Leigh Day, is advocating for about 1,100 supporters who claim that Uefa failed to ensure a safe environment for them.

The football governing body has been resistant towards having the claims held at the High Court in Liverpool. They argue that any decision regarding actions taken by authorities such as police should be handled within France. However, Leigh Day insists on bringing the case before an English court due to its significance for a large number of affected fans.

A joint statement released by partners Clare Campbell and Jill Paterson expressed disappointment with Uefa's attempt "to deflect away" from their role in organizational and safety failures during the event. The legal team believes it is crucial for these matters to be decided upon by an appropriate court system like that of England.

An independent review conducted after the incident found that Uefa bore primary responsibility for those failures which occurred outside Stade de France on May 28th, 2022. Despite this report attributing contributory fault also on other entities such as French police and Football Federation, it highlighted European governing body's prominent involvement.

As proceedings continue between solicitors representing injured supporters against Uefa's resistance towards holding trial hearings within England rather than France where events took place originally.
