Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider's Insider Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that the role is "Alonso's job to lose".

Liverpool have been linked with a swathe of top coaches, including Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi, Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim and Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann, but the Reds admire Alonso the most.

Alonso has been widely linked as Jurgen Klopp's replacement in the dugout at Anfield, with Football Insider revealing last month (28 January) that the Reds plan to approach the current Bayer Leverkusen boss.

His contract at the Bundesliga side is set to run until June 2026, but it is believed that he has a clause which allows him to move to any of his former clubs.
