Three Liverpool players Jürgen Klopp could welcome back from injury before Chelsea cup final

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has yet more injury concerns to deal with ahead of this weekend's Carabao Cup final. The Reds take on Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday and will be eager to get their hands on the first of potentially four trophies in Klopp's final season.

Saturday's 4-1 win at Brentford was marred by injuries to Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones during the first half before Darwin Nunez was forced off at the break after opening the scoring. Klopp later revealed that the Uruguayan was taken off as a precaution but there is a fear that Jones and Jota could be set for extended spells on the sidelines.

"Curtis got a knock on the lower part of his shin, or above the ankle," Klopp said during his post-match press conference from Brentford. "We will see what that means. That Curtis cannot play on tells you that it must be something because he would have played on at all costs. Diogo looks probably the worst; I didn't see it back but I heard the pictures didn't look great as well, so we have to see there."

Liverpool takes on Luton at Anfield on Wednesday night before the trip to Wembley and Klopp is expected to be without the trio, alongside several other injury absentees. Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently sidelined with a knee problem while Thiago Alcantara, Stefan Bajcetic and Joel Matip are also out.

Alisson missed the trip to Brentford after picking up a muscle problem and it seems unlikely he will be back in midweek. Caoimhin Kelleher deputized in that win and will likely do so again. Alisson could ultimately be fit in time for Sunday's clash with Chelsea, but Klopp has already suggested his current understudy will get the nod.

Elsewhere, there could be some better news around the corner for Dominik Szboszlai. The Hungarian midfielder has been struggling with a hamstring injury since the turn of the year and aggravated the problem recently when he returned to action. Last week, the Liverpool boss admitted Szboszlai would return 'around the time' of the final, although he conceded: "I am not sure Dom has a chance to play, maybe."

With Jones set to miss out, it does leave Liverpool short of options in midfield. Wataru Endo's return from the Asia Cup couldn't have come at a better time and it looks as though Ryan Gravenberch will get the chance to stake a claim against Luton in midweek, alongside Alexis Mac Allister.

It seems as though Klopp will not risk Nunez on Wednesday night to give him the best chance of being fit to take on Chelsea on Sunday. Speaking after the weekend win, the Liverpool boss said: "Darwin, we took off because he felt really a little but that was obviously enough to immediately push the brake and that's what we did."

The Uruguayan, though, could be fit for the Wembley final. Cody Gakpo, who scored and impressed from the bench against Brentford, might be likely to get a deserved opportunity against Luton.

Liverpool.com says: The injuries to Jota, Jones and Nunez couldn't have come at a worse time for Klopp ahead of a key run of matches in four competitions. Liverpool is already without a host of players and it appears Nunez is the only member of the trio in with a shout of playing at Wembley.

Alisson was expected to play on Saturday before pulling out in training and Klopp admitted afterwards that he didn't know how long he would be out. Even if he is fit to be in the squad against Chelsea, Kelleher is likely to keep his place. Szoboszlai being fit would be a real bonus but he has already aggravated his injury this season and cannot be rushed back.
