'Nobody's talking about': David James says Liverpool might be about to surprise everyone with their new manager

Liverpool's search for the right man to replace Jurgen Klopp continues to dominate headlines.

The task of appointing Klopp's successor as Reds manager is a delicate one which Liverpool have to make sure they get right. With Xabi Alonso the current standout, they're hopefully on track to do that.

Other names have been mentioned too, although Alonso is the clear favourite. According to former goalkeeper David James though, the Reds should consider hiring a left-field manager. Speaking to GGRecon, James suggested that he thinks that's exactly what his old club might do.

"I've already said that Edin Terzic, who I know personally, should be in the mix because of his Borussia Dortmund links, which is obviously similar to Jurgen Klopp," explained the pundit.

"I believe Edin Terzic is a good option and I really like him as a person, but I'm really sure that Liverpool would have a list of three or four candidates.

"I know that Ange Postecoglou is a name that's being mooted at the moment, but there could also be another potential replacement out there that nobody's talking about."

Liverpool still with a trick up their sleeves You always have to be wary of this kind of thing when talking about Liverpool. They do like a good surprise with transfers especially.

Take last summer's moves for example. Nobody really knew who was coming in until they were almost done. With the exemption of Ryan Gravenberch who was linked for months, the other three happened fairly quickly.

The decisions to sign Dominik Szoboszlai and in particular Wataru Endo were pretty much straight out of the blue. That's the way Liverpool tend to do things.

The difference with this manager search is that there really aren't that many suitable candidates out there for them.

With additions to the playing squad, there are quite literally hundreds of players who could be signed by Liverpool. That makes the business of trying to second guess them in the market difficult.

This time around, there is even less. Alonso is quite obviously the top candidate, and anyone else realistic would feel like even more of a risk.

As for Terzic, this is quite honestly a bizarre suggestion from James. The former England international appears to know the Borussia Dortmund manager personally and he does seem like a good guy. But his record with Dortmund does not suggest that he's a Liverpool manager in waiting.

There may be a surprise in the pipeline for the Reds, but it won't be Terzic.
