'That would be great': £35m player says he would love to join Liverpool this summer

Liverpool may just have been given a big boost ahead of the summer transfer window.

There's still a heck of a lot to play for in terms of Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge. But as they now must do, Liverpool will also have one eye on the future.

Immediately, that means bringing in a new sporting director and a new manager. Beyond that though, there may be one or two additions to the playing squad this summer, too.

One player being rumoured to be on the Reds' radar is Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong. With full focus currently on Frimpong's manager, Xabi Alonso, it hasn't gone unnoticed that some of his players are very handy as well.

Alonso is of course the top candidate to take over from Klopp at Liverpool. And speaking to Ziggo Sport via Soccer News, Frimpong was questioned whether he would be interested in potentially following his manager to Anfield.

"Liverpool? Great club, with the history," answered the 23-year-od. "That would be great. Who knows what the future will bring."

Frimpong keen on Liverpool move This will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans who are hoping to see Trent Alexander-Arnold move permanently into midfield.

If the new manager sees Trent staying where he is, then there's no chance the Reds sign another right-back. Conor Bradley has already shown that he's more than capable of being a back-up at the very least.

But if Alonso, or whoever it is, think the Scouser should be moved infield, then a space suddenly opens up. Looking around Europe, the outstanding choice to step into that and replace Alexander-Arnold would be Frimpong.

Much like a lot of his teammates at Leverkusen, the Dutchman has been on fire this season.

Operating in an advanced role in Alonso's three-man defence system, Frimpong has been a real offensive outlet under the Spaniard.

Only 23, the Netherlands international can still improve as well. By the sounds of it, he's keen to do that together with his current boss at Liverpool next season.

Given his form and his reported price-tag, you'd expect Frimpong to be on the move in the summer regardless. It's been claimed that he can be signed for a set fee of around PS35m at the end of the season.

That's the kind of bargain price that Liverpool should be all over. The player himself is keen, what else is there to think about.
