Diogo Jota has vowed to return to full fitness as soon as possible as he eyes a role in Liverpool's Premier League title run-in despite suffering a serious knee injury against Brentford on Saturday.

The Portugal international was substituted in the first half of the Reds' 4-1 win at the Gtech Community Stadium after Bees midfielder Christian Norgaard landed awkwardly on his leg. After departing the field on a stretcher, Jota later boarded the Liverpool team bus supported by crutches and with his left knee in a brace.

On Tuesday, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Jota is set for a period of "months" on the sidelines rather than weeks and, as a result, will miss Sunday's League Cup final against Chelsea. He will also miss next month's Premier League heavyweight clash with Manchester City at Anfield.

But the former Wolverhampton Wanderers frontman has vowed to "fight" for a speedy recovery as he looks to return for the final weeks of Klopp's Anfield reign, with the Reds still in the hunt for Premier League, Europa League, League Cup and FA Cup success.

"Another setback. I will fight to be back as soon as possible," said Jota, who has scored 14 goals in 28 appearances for the Reds this season, on social media.

Earlier this week, the 27-year-old was named the Premier League Player of the Month for January after scoring three goals and laying on two assists against Bournemouth and Chelsea as Liverpool sealed back-to-back league victories to maintain their lead over Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

However, Jota is not the only fresh injury concern for Liverpool ahead of Wednesday's clash against Luton Town, with Curtis Jones also ruled out after he sustained a "bone ligament" injury against Brentford on Saturday. The Reds boss confirmed the midfielder will miss Wednesday's game against the Hatters but refused to put a timeframe on when he could return to action.
