Manchester United's season has not gone to plan, but we do seem to have managed to derail Liverpool's.

When Erik ten Hag took over at Manchester United, he was immediately asked how he planned to topple Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

Ten Hag memorably beamed that 'eras come to an end', and in one case at least, he is being proven correct.

While the Guardiola problem will have to wait for another day, the Jurgen Klopp era is coming to end, with a whimper.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson played a crucial role, his finest game for the Eagles to date, keeping a clean sheet.

This came after their 3-0 loss to Atalanta in the Europa League, after Manchester United had dented their Premier League hopes last week with a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

MORE UNITED STORIES

Prior to the international break, United stunned Liverpool with a spectacular 4-3 FA Cup win, to end their hopes of a quadruple.

It's been a poor season for United, but the last two matches against Liverpool have featured a couple of memorable moments.

Klopp blames United for Liverpool collapse Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has directly blamed their back to back defeats to Atalanta and Crystal Palace... on Manchester United.

Speaking post-match to PA, he says his side have simply failed to react to the disappointment of those games, particularly the quarter-final defeat, which he labelled a 'catastrophe'.

Klopp said: "I think the problem is, a little bit, that I'm not 100 per cent sure that, in general, how we dealt with the United games helped

"We lost the game in the cup and it was like a catastrophe because we were that good and lost it anyway.

"Then we drew there but were really good for a long spell. We have conceded a little bit.

"That's now not the reason for today, the problems we had in the United games were completely different to the things we had today, but obviously we expected a reaction.

"We lost in that (United) game more than only the game. It didn't help."
