Darwin Nunez shows true colours as Liverpool man pauses Uruguay celebrations with team-mates
Source:Liverpool Echo:

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez showed his true colours in the early hours of Sunday morning after he commiserated with his domestic team-mate Alisson Becker.

The two Reds were involved in a feisty clash at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium, with both Uruguay and Brazil pressing hard to reach the last four of the Copa America. Nunez and Alisson found themselves on opposing teams, but chances were few and far between.

Nunez missed Uruguay's best chance in normal time as his header flew over his teammate's crossbar. Marcelo Bielsa's side finished 90 minutes with ten men, as Nahitan Nandez was sent off with just over 15 minutes to go.

With the scores goalless and nothing to separate them, the match went to a penalty shootout. Nunez did not take a spot-kick but watched on as his teammates sealed a 4-2 victory.

Eder Militao and Douglas Luiz missed for the Brazilians before Alisson could not keep out Manuel Ugarte's winning spot-kick. After the full-time whistle, there were clearly contrasting emotions for the two Liverpool men.

However, in a classy gesture, Nunez made a beeline for Alisson and consoled him. The pair shared a quick word and a hug before the goalkeeper left the field, and the forward began his celebrations with his international teammates.

Uruguay will now fancy themselves to go all the way to the final of the Copa America after beating Brazil. They will take on Colombia in the early hours of Thursday morning to face either Argentina or Canada in the final.
