Liverpool ditch ‘behind-closed-doors’ plans for 25y/o ace after major development - report

Manager Arne Slot has made a near perfect start to life in the Premier League with Liverpool.

The Reds are currently sitting at the top of the standings after winning six of their opening seven games.

The English top-flight pauses for the next two weeks and so the Merseyside giants have no fixtures until October 20 when they host Chelsea at Anfield.

Liverpool had been considering arranging a behind-closed-doors practice match for players not called up for international duty, especially Darwin Nunez (per The Times).

However, the 25-year-old is now available to play for Uruguay's next matches against Peru and Ecuador after the Court of Arbitration for Sport temporarily lifted his suspension for clashing with rival supporters.

The forward received a five-game ban by Conmebol after he clashed with Colombia fans during the Copa America in the summer. But he is now available to play for Marcelo Bielsa's side in the short term with CAS to analyse the case.

Nunez joined Liverpool in a PS75 million deal from Benfica in the summer of 2022. He has scored 34 goals in 103 appearances across all competitions, but has failed to make an impact so far under new boss Arne Slot.

The 25-year-old has featured in four Premier League games this campaign, but three of them have been from the bench. He was an unused substitute in Saturday's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Nunez will be hoping to gain valuable minutes with Uruguay, which could be a big boost to his confidence.
